THE MAN and HIS CAT: A MODERN FABLE

Once upon a time there was a man who owned a cat. The man asked the cat, “Why don’t women pursue me?” to which the cat said nothing, as cats cannot speak. The man took the cat’s silence to mean he should buy a motorcycle, which he did. He knew for sure that motorcycles were cool, and that women pursued men who were cool. Once he owned a motorcycle, he knew women would pursue him.

However, three months later no women had pursued him. “Why don’t women pursue me?” he asked the cat again, to which the cat again said nothing, as cats cannot speak. The man took the cat’s silence to mean he should buy a leather jacket, which he did. He knew for sure the leather jacket and the motorcycle together would make women pursue him.

Three more months passed, and no women had pursued him. “Why don’t women pursue me?” he asked the cat another time, to which the cat said nothing, as cats cannot speak. The man took the cat’s silence to mean he should take up smoking. “Aha! Triple threat!”

The man took up smoking, and the next evening a woman pursued him. He offered her a ride on his motorcycle, which she accepted. As they rushed down the highway the man lit a cigarette, lost control of his motorcycle, crashed into a tree, and died right on the spot.

Moral: Just because smoking kills doesn’t mean it’s not cool.
